Baidu and Intel to work on search applications in China

Ukraine has 3 million internet users with Google leading

 

Bigmir.net, the Ukrainian internet statistics site in partnership with Sputnik Media has released their metrics report for March 2006.

Iceland leading in broadband usage

 

Iceland (pop 300.000) is the most web-savvy country - a recent study shows it has the highest concentration of broadband users. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) found that broadband was also widespread in South Korea, the Netherlands and Denmark. USA still leads in most users, with nearly 50 million.

Become’s Japanese version

The site users can search the information such as products, reviews, and EC site comparisons in Japanese.

On 12th, Google announced the release of new “Google mini” in Lego-ish simple design, the search appliance for mid to small companies.

Convera Adds multilingual search capabilities to excalibur

 

According to Datamonitor, Convera is adding multilingual search capabilities to their technology.
Essentially they are using Paris-based Temis’s XeLDA engine into Convera’s Excalibur platform, an indexing and categorization technology. This will include support to the following languages:

German
Spanish
Russian

Google powers 75% of UK searches, says Hitwise

 

Latest figures from Hitwise gives Google 74.8% of all UK internet searches in March. The top four search engines were responsible for 95.7% of all UK internet searches in the period.

16 million access internet in Indonesia, 8 million Malaysia, 6.5 million Thailand

The Jakarta Post reports that internet access in Indonesia lags behind other countries with just 6.6% of the population online - but that’s a healthy 16 million audience.
