How to change your DMOZ Description in MSN

  May 23, 2006

The MSN Search Blog reports MSN Search Engine may use the description from a web page instead of ODP title and description.

In a move to please the search community and more in general webmasters, MSN has introduced a new robots meta tag that tells the MSN search bot not to use DMOZ site description. This is done at page level introducing the TAG:

< META NAME=”ROBOTS” CONTENT=”NOODP” >

or

< META NAME=”msnbot” CONTENT=”NOODP” >

The new tag has been introduced to “to improve the search experience”.

Girish Kumar, MSN Search Development Lead, states: “customers have let us know that they wanted us to change how we used Open Directory descriptions in search results … So… we did!”
