Head of Google China Moves On
Andy Atkins-Krüger Sep 4, 2009 The BBC reports that Lee Kai-Fu will leave his post as President of Google Greater China during September adding to a bumpy period for Google in China. After 4 years, he will be replaced by John Liu who currently heads Google’s Chinese Sales team.
Baidu is the leading search engine in China and Google has struggled to make much headway in share despite playing around with cooperating and then not cooperating with Chinese censors. More intriguing is the question of what kind of a business Mr Kai-Fu is heading off to start? He previously worked for Microsoft before joining Google - and was the subject of a legal case when he jumped ships. Should he join either Microsoft or Baidu - that would definitely stir things up in the Asian search engine market.
