Comparing data released by comScore this year and comparing what they said last year, the story emerges the Europe has actually surged ahead in terms of number of searches. This is partly due to the wide number of countries in the European region - particularly including Russia which is surging ahead on all cylinders search-wise at the moment.
However, the fact that there are more searches in Europe - may surprise some.

I am not surprised. At least, not much. Despite there are 3 billion people living in Asia, the Internet penetration is quite low.
